​Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

​Qualification Purpose
The aim of the Focus Awards Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is to develop learner’s knowledge, understanding and skills of emergency first aid at work. The qualification will provide learners with the opportunity to administer first aid procedures in the workplace by becoming a qualified first aider. The Focus Awards Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) meets the Health and Safety Executive (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 in respect of First Aid at Work and is aimed at those who work or intend to work for a range of organisation as all employers are required by law to have a First Aid provision for their employees.
Age Ranges
Entry is at the discretion of the centre. However, learners should be aged 16 to undertake this qualification. Geographical Coverage: This qualification is available in England and Northern Ireland.

All employers are required by law to have a First Aid provision for their employees. In achieving the Focus Awards Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF), all learners will cover essentials of First Aid, including roles and responsibilities, incident assessment, and managing and administering First Aid to casualties in a variety of situations. These situations could relate to breathing, chocking, bleeding, shock, and minor injuries as well as casualties with sudden poisoning, anaphylaxis, and suspected major illness.

Qualifi Level 3 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis

Course Overview
The aim of the QUALIFI Level 3 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis is to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to provide basic life support and management of anaphylaxis. This qualification is for individuals with a specific interest or a responsibility at work, home or for a voluntary community activity, who are expected to be able to provide basic life support and manage anaphylaxis in an emergency. Successful completion of the QUALIFI Level 3 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis provides learners with the opportunity to progress to further study or employment.

Learning Outcomes
The overall learning outcomes of the qualification are for learners to:

be able to assess the casualty.

be able to carry out the recovery position.

be able to provide CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

be able to provide safe use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

be able to manage anaphylaxis in an emergency.

Entry Requirements
There There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification. Entry is at the discretion of the centre; however, learners should be able to work at Level 3 and above and should be aged 16 years and over.
Learners must demonstrate first aid procedures as part of their assessment, as they would in a real work environment, including providing CPR to a casualty on the floor. Therefore, learners must be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor.
Learners must have sufficient command of the English language to understand and undertake the recommended assessment methods for this qualification.

Emergency First Aid at Work

Course Summary
Candidates successfully completing this emergency course will be entitled to act as a first aider in the workplace. This Emergency First Aid at Work course may be more suitable whereby a needs assessment has identified a low-risk work environment. This course complies with the Health & Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 (Appendix 6 Content of an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course)

First Aid at Work

Course Summary
Candidates successfully completing this course will be entitled to act as a first-aider in the workplace. This First aid at Work course includes the 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work course and also equips the first-aider to apply first aid to an extensive range of specific injuries and illnesses. This course complies with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) regulations 1981 (Appendix 5 Content of a First Aid at Work (FAW) course).

Emergency First aid in the Workplace
Unit 2
Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace
The blended First Aid at Work course allows learners to achieve the full First Aid at Work qualification by successfully completing online learning course prior to attending only 2-days face-to-face training instead of the standard 3-days. Online learning can be done at the learners own pace.
Learning Outcomes
In accordance with Appendix 5 & 6 of the H&S (First-Aid) Regulations 1981
Unit 1
Roles and responsibilities of a first aider; cross infection; recording incidents & actions; use of available equipment;
assessing an incident; unconscious casualties (including seizure); cardio pulmonary resuscitation; safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator;
choking; wounds and bleeding; shock; minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters);
Unit 2
Secondary survey; injuries to bones, joints and muscles (including spinal injuries); suspected head and spinal injuries;
chest injuries; burns and scalds; eye injuries; sudden poisoning; anaphylaxis; major illnesses (heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma & diabetes);
serious bleeding including: embedded objects; sucking chest wound; and amputations.

Certification
Successful candidates will be awarded the Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate valid for 3 years. This course is accredited by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) in accordance with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
